On a pleasant late summer evening in 2021, Mays and I were sitting and talking after dinner. Our lease was up for renewal that November, and we were discussing whether to stay or look for another place. Since we had both been working remotely for the last year and a half, the idea of going to someplace warmer than Virginia for a month during the winter popped up. Very quickly this grew from “one place for a month” to “multiple places for several months.” Since we wanted to spend a full month in each place to really be able to feel what it’s like to live there (without having to move there), we realized very quickly that we would need more than a few months. That was the genesis of our year-long adventure.
